Photo Gallery | Closing the achievement gap is a cake walk
Sharon Ito's blog: (March 16, 2012) Here are some photos from last night's fundraiser, the Great Cake Walk held at Sac State, for the local non-profit Closing the Gap. My friend and former colleague Dana Howard is one of the founders of the organization, dedicated to closing the achievement gap among students. In a nutshell, the group funds several local programs that mentor students so they stay on track, both in school and in life, and forge a path to college and beyond.
I was thrilled when Dana called and asked if I would participate. He got me into an apron to help serve some of the desserts, but I have to admit I may have spent more time sampling than serving. Thanks to everyone who cheered us on as we laughed our way around the chairs -- a combination of musical chairs and a raffle in one. If only closing the real gap was a cake walk.
