Bicycles, Boxing and Baseball at the Cemetery

Sacramentans have always worked hard—and played hard, too! Join us on Saturday, May 4 at 10:00 am, to learn about boxers and baseball players from the old days, and how bicyclists helped spur the development of our modern highway system. Bicycles and velocipedes encouraged.

The cemetery is located at 1000 Broadway, Sacramento. Free parking is available in the lot at 10th & Broadway, across the street from the 10th Street entrance. Sadly, the hospital recently sent out an email reneging on their verbal commitment to work on making room for an on campus loading dock to ease J Street congestion. Learn about the early history of Sacramento by taking a tour of the cemetery on April 27 at 10:00 am. You’ll hear about the city’s pioneer leaders, as well as interesting facts, such as the meaning of “Urbs Indomita” on the Sacramento City seal.

East Sacramento Citizens Speak Up About “McKinley Village”

 

East Sacramentans peppered Riverview Capital Investments with questions and suggestions. The company wants to develop the East Sacramento area north of the train tracks. The land is currently an undeveloped meadow. Several projects have failed in the past, mainly because of neighborhood resistance. Serious concerns surround development of this area such as sewage, traffic, project design and costs to the city. The company is on a fact finding mission at this point. The final design is pending.

$1.5 Million Grant for Sutter’s Landing Park

On November 28, 2012, the California Natural Resources Agency awarded the City of Sacramento a $1.5 million River Parkways grant for Sutter’s Landing Park to restore habitat and improve river access from Midtown to the American River Parkway.  The American River Parkway is one of the most important contiguous habitat and recreation open spaces in the region and state, attracting millions of visitors annually.
