SACRAMENTO, Calif. - A fire erupted in a Rosemont home just after Sacramento County sheriff's deputies got reports of a violent assault at the home Wednesday afternoon.
Sacramento Metro Fire got reports of heavy smoke and flames coming from a duplex on the 4000 block of Birchgrove Lane a little after 3 p.m.
Neighbors called deputies after seeing a man, Donald Evans, 24, assaulting an older woman. Later, they heard a big bang from the home and then saw flames.
Deputies said the older woman is a related to Evans.
Evans was arrest for elder abuse, arson and assaulting an officer. Deputies said Evans appeared to be on drugs.
The elderly woman was not seriously injured; no one was injured in the fire.
