Dare to Dream

Dare to Dream

Moving to Minnesota was an opportunity for me, not just to be with the man I love, but to shift gears in my career. Not a major shift, just a little one. I wanted to explore the marketing side of my skill set. For the past five years or so, I’d been getting more involved with things like managing direct mail and email campaigns, designing brochures, and of course, social media.

Not to mention maintaining and creating the content of a website for my team. And of course, there’s this blog, which I have written regularly since 2004. Oh, lest I forget my fascination with all things social media. I mean I did meet my boyfriend and move out here because of Twitter.

So, when I started my job search, I took all these things into consideration and puked them into my resume. Apparently, most people could tell the document seemed a little barfy. I tried to make it slick and 2.0, but let’s face it, that’s just not how I roll. I’m a writer.

Relationships 2.0

Relationships 2.0

“That will change…”  I have heard this and other comments about my burgeoning relationship that are clearly a reflection of the talker’s own unhappiness with their relationship.

I have heard too many damn people try to tell me that I am going to fall into traditional roles in my relationship.  Apparently, these people know me and my boyfriend better than we know ourselves.  I am supposedly going to be doing his laundry, cooking for him, and cleaning the whole house like some woman from the mid-century.

Hello?  Why is this assumption being made in this day and age?

Allstate Foundation: Drive it Home

Anyone who reads my blog knows that safe driving habits are near and dear to my heart. Many the post has been dedicated to ranting about how poorly people drive, especially in Sacramento where the red light running seems like it’s reached epidemic proportions... Read More

The micro-blogging site that changed the world…

The micro-blogging site that changed the world…

Seven years ago today, a site launched that would change my life. 18 months later I would find out about it and sign up. I learned about Twitter at work. I was reading some article about marketing and the author mentioned this new micro-blogging site that was starting to take off.

At first, I didn’t get it. As you can see from my very first tweet…it wasn’t interesting.

The tweet that started it all... Read More

Life: Risks and Rewards

Life: Risks and Rewards

I don’t think of myself as foolish. Foolish people don’t have a plan. I have a plan. It may not be the best one, but at least I’ve got one. Moving to Minnesota to be with Paul feels like the right thing to do. Every time I think about being with him, I smile.

It never occurred to me that some people who hear our story might think I’m being a silly woman by giving up my life and moving out to be with him. I’m not giving up my life. I’m starting a new one.

A goal I am aiming to reach... Read More

This is not a diet (ce n’est pas un régime)

This is not a diet (ce n’est pas un régime)

Diets don’t work for me. Well, they do for like 5 minutes, but that’s not going to help me with what’s really wrong. What’s really wrong? I am not thinking about what I’m eating. I know how to eat healthy, sometimes (most of the time) I just don’t think about it or want to…

OK, that’s not true. I do want to eat healthy, but it’s too easy to be lazy. So, in an effort to not be lazy, I’ve decided to track my food. It’s not a diet.

I just want to be more aware... Read More

Dating via the internet

Dating via the internet

Patience is not one of my strong points. I miss my boyfriend so damn much. It’s ridiculous. Part of me wants to just visit him for a weekend to rejuvenate myself. But, you know what’s almost as good? A Skype date. It’s cheaper and quicker.

Skype, a dating tool for the new millennium.

When you’re a thousand and a half miles away from the love of your life, you will take whatever interaction you can get.  Because up and quitting your job while you still need to bulk up your savings isn’t prudent.
