"Deadheading at Dusk" at the Old City Cemetery

Come join us in the beautiful Old City Cemetery’s Historic Rose Garden for an early evening hands-on event on Monday, May 5th @ 6:30 pm. We will be removing spent blooms from the many rosebushes and tidying up the garden which encourages repeat blooming of the roses in our treasured Historic Rose Garden.

Tools and training will be provided and light refreshments will be served.

Workshops are free, however, donations are appreciated and go towards the restoration and preservation of the roses and cemetery artifacts.

The cemetery is located at 1000 Broadway, Sacramento. Free parking is available in the lot at 10th & Broadway, across the street from the 10th Street entrance. For more information, call 916-448-0811 or 916-264-7839.

Old City Cemetery Tour - Music in the Boneyard

Join the Old City Cemetery Committee's tour "Music in the Boneyard" on Saturday, May 3rd @ 7:00 p.m.  From inaugurations to rallies to vaudeville theaters, Sacramento’s musicians got around.  Meet old west treblemakers and hear old-timey tunes from local musicians!

Admission is $5.00.  Tickets (limited to 50) will be sold at the front gate beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Costumed docents will tell romantic tales about the roses, love found in the wagon trains and early pioneer days, and love lost on Saturday, April 19th at 6:30pm - 8:00,

The mission of the OCCC is to join hands with the community to restore, beautify, preserve, and protect the Historic City Cemetery, while maintaining access by descendants of the deceased, and to provide educational services to all visitors to the Historic City Cemetery of Sacramento.

Old City Cemetery Event - OPEN GARDEN DAY

The gardens of the Historic City Cemetery will be in full bloom during our annual Open Garden Day on April 12th, 2014 from 9:30 am - 2:00 pm. The fragrance of the old roses of the award-winning Historic Rose Garden will fill the air as 500 roses clamber up trees, cover archways and bloom on big shrubs in this unique 19th century setting.  Perennial and native plant gardens will also be featured. The day begins with a sale of rare heritage rose plants and continues with free tours of the gardens and cemetery, a Silent Auction, and sales of rose merchandise.

The Old City Cemetery Committee’s invites you to a tour that focuses on early perennials in Hamilton Square on March 15, 2014 @ 10:00 a.m.  Visit the Hamilton Square Garden in the Old City Cemetery for a look at early perennials, which thrive in the Sacramento Valley. Rain cancels. 

 Free parking is available in the lot at 10th & Broadway, across the street from the 10th Street entrance. Assemble in the cemetery in the front parking lot. Tours are free; however, donations are appreciated and benefit cemetery preservation projects.
