SACRAMENTO - Four people were arrested and another is sought by police following a carjacking in East Sacramento in which the victim was pistol whipped early Monday morning.

According to Sacramento sheriff's deputies on scene, the victim was returning to his North Highlands home around 1:50 a.m. when three men approached him, hit him in the head with a pistol, took his keys and stole his Lexus SUV.

Deputies said the suspected thieves then picked up two girls in the stolen vehicle and went for a joyride.

The Lexus had a Lojack security system installed and officers were able to locate the vehicle at El Camino Ave. and Verna Way in the Arden-Arcade area. But when deputies came upon the SUV, the driver fled, according to officials.

The fleeing driver lost control and crashed the SUV near the intersection of I St. and 35th St., two blocks from where the pursuit began.

Four individuals, including the two girls picked up along the way, were arrested at the scene, but a fifth person fled on foot and was not apprehended, deputies said.

Anyone with information on the incident was asked to contact the Sacramento Sheriff's Dept.
