McKinley Village Smart Growth: A Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing

There’s a great deal of information to cover about Smart Growth, so in the interest of expediency I will be shortening the project’s name, McKinley Village, into simply “McVillage.”

The McVillage website states that, quote, “this smart growth, infill community of 328 homes is designed to fit into Sacramento’s urban fabric and complement adjoining neighborhoods.”

Unfortunately, smart growth is a phrase that has lost much of its meaning over the last several years. Steeped in culture and tradition, the 46th Annual Native American Day will take place on Friday, September 27, from 10 a.m.

1st Annual Poobunny Ride Saturday Oct. 12

200 bikers will be revving up their engines in support of Albie Aware Breast Cancer Foundation.

The departure point is Renegade Classics, a motorcycle gear shop at 6758 Folsom Boulevard. Their destination is Paschke Ranch in Woodland. (36047 County Road 25)

This ride, which is open to all cyclists (and autos), was created by Dotie Dollson. who was looking for a way to memorialize her niece, Adele Mott.

Strangely enough, I have really fond memories of hanging out in malls as a young girl. I remember spending full days at Sacramento’s Downtown Plaza, filling bags with sweets at the candy shop, buying cheap jewelry at Claire’s, spritzing ourselves with an obscene amount of fragrance from The Body Shop, sitting on the soft, crushed velvet couches at Z Gallerie and dreaming of the day when I would be old enough to own a fancy purse from Wilsons Leather.

We lived in the suburbs of Sacramento at the time, but when we headed Downtown for the day we’d wander much farther down K Street than we were supposed to (sorry, parental units…it’s true)... Read More
