Benefit for My Sister's House emergency shelter features dad and daughter duo

When minister’s assistant Koichi Mizushima and his 9-year-old daughter Ellie take the stage at the Crest Theatre, their duet will be a song of love and a message of hope for women and children in crisis.

Mizushima, former owner of Kamon Restaurant, is with the ministerial staff at the Sacramento Buddhist Church. He and his daughter are among the featured performers at a gala for My Sister’s House, “Change...A New Beginning,” on Monday, May 19, at the historic downtown Sacramento theater.

'Day of Giving' hopes to raise $1M for Sacramento-area charities

Nearly 400 Sacramento area non-profit organizations are coming together for the BIG Day of Giving (BIG DoG) on Tuesday, May 6. The 24-hour online give-a-thon hopes to raise at least $1 million for the region.

Starting at 12 a.m. on Tuesday, donors can give directly to the non-profit organization of their choice and add to the total amount of donations in the Sacramento region.
