Film Moblization Rally Urges Support for AB 1839 and Tax Incentives for Filmmakers

More than 250 California Filmmakers rallied at the State Capitol today to urge passage of AB1839, a law to support California jobs by providing tax incentives for film production companies who film in California.

Union representatives and non-union actors and crew members carried signs and showcased their skills by demonstrating green screen technology and the art of foley, specialized sound effects for film.

A variety of speakers told the crowd how filmmaking jobs supports local busineses and the overall California economy.

Introduced by Assemblymembers Raul Bocanegra (Dist 39-San Fernando) and Mike Gatto (Dist 43-Burbank), the bill has approval from the CA Assembly and now needs passage in the CA Senate.

Sutter's Fort Calls Out for Volunteers!

Sutter's Fort Calls Out for Volunteers!

If you are passionate about California’s fascinating history and would enjoy sharing and demonstrating the compelling stories from the mid-1800s, consider becoming a volunteer at Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park!

Applications are now being accepted for volunteer positions this summer and comprehensive training is provided. A background in California history is not required and a variety of positions are currently available.   For instance, you might choose to serve as a docent -- dressed in period attire of course -- to present the events and times of the John Sutter and his New Helvetia settlement.  Or, you might choose a role behind-the-scenes at the historic site.   Either way, you’re encouraged to get involved in this worthwhile volunteer effort.

One of America’s leading advocates in providing health education, HealthCorps, is currently searching for new coordinators in the Sacramento area. These coordinators would be in charge of leading school and community based programs designed to heighten physical, mental, and emotional health. HealthCorps employees are keen on spreading lessons in fitness and tailoring the next generation for long, healthy lives.

HealthCorps coordinators should be passionate about health and be able to lead and participate in community outreach programs. Image courtesy of HealthCorps.org.

Founded in 2003 by renowned heart surgeon, author, and talk show host Mehmet Oz, HealthCorps has launched a huge number of health education programs throughout America. As stated on HealthCorps.org, their mission is to “implement an innovative in-school model that inspires teens to make healthier choices for themselves and their families.”
