Sacramento Music Festival Announces Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band as Friday Night Headliner

Known for their hard-rocking, blues-based and guitar-driven music that really energizes a crowd, the Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band will headline the first night of the 40th Anniversary Sacramento Music Festival that opens on Friday, May 24.  Music enthusiasts from near and far will spend Memorial Day Weekend celebrating four decades of amazing world-class musical entertainment taking place on 24 venues throughout Sacramento.

Complete with a high-energy Friday night kick-off by the Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band  and a vibrant Saturday morning parade, the musical celebration will also showcase live musical performances by Los Lobos, Ben Taylor, The Blasters, John Lee Hooker, Jr., The James Hunter Six, Wanda Jackson, Dan Hicks & The Hot Licks, James Garner’s Cash Tribute, The Rhythm Vandals, The Beer Dawgs, Jimmy Pailer, The Kyle Rowland Band, and many more!

14th Annual Public Safety & Community Appreciation Breakfast

In recognition of National Police Week, DA Jan Scully will host the 14th Annual Public Safety & Community Appreciation Breakfast.

This year’s event will continue a valued Sacramento tradition of bringing public safety members together with public and elected officials, business and community leaders, and individual citizens to show appreciation for the hard work and dedication of those who help to keep our region safe.

Given the recent loss of fallen and wounded officers in Sacramento County and throughout California, this year’s event theme is, “Sworn to Protect & Serve: Honoring Our Wounded & Fallen Officers.” The public is encouraged to attend and help honor local public safety colleagues and their families for the sacrifices they have made in the line of duty.

Celebrate National Train Day This Saturday with FREE Admission to Two Museums!

On Saturday, May 11, 2013, Amtrak, California State Parks and the California State Railroad Museum will proudly celebrate the sixth annual National Train Day by offering free Museum admission, tours of modern-day Amtrak California passenger cars and special rail-related activities inside and outside the Museum!  And, to add to the celebration and extend the fun, the nearby Sacramento History Museum in Old Sacramento will also offer free museum admission on this special day. The event is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. this one day only, kicking off promptly at 10 a.m.
