Sac State student killed in accident identified

SACRAMENTO, CA -- A Sacramento State student is dead after being hit by a car while she was riding a bike near campus.

It happened around 3 a.m. on J Street near Carlson Drive. Sacramento police Sgt. Norm Leong said a 60-year-old-woman hit Arlene Sasse, 22, and immediately pulled over. He added that alcohol wasn't a factor in the accident.

Police said the cyclist did not have reflectors on her bike, which may have contributed to the accident.

This week, "Bringing It Home" TV show host Laura McIntosh shows us how to make Chef Sean O'Toole's Sylvetta Salad:

Ingredients
1/4 Sylvetta (Wild Arugula)
3 Bartlett Pears
1/4 Pint Reyes Blue Cheese
1/4 Cup Maple Syrup
1 Tbs Black Peppercorns
1 Lemon
Olive Oil
Salt
Pepper
4 Slices of Rustic Bread

Cooking Instructions
Cut the lemon in half; squeeze half in 1 quart of water. Peel the pears, slice ½ thick, and cut half of those into ½ inch batons and reserve in the lemon water. In a small sauce pot combine sherry vinegar and maple syrup and reduce until glaze like consistency, crack the black peppercorns and add. In a sauté pan, caramelize the pear slices.

The contributor of the month piece will highlight a My Neighborhood blogger who has posted multiple pieces during the month and is doing something exciting. The contributor of the month is picked by News10 My Neighborhood staff.

I met up with Catherine Enfield at the Sugar and Spice Bakery at 12th and F. Bakery Owner Carissa went about her afternoon as she baked more treats and helped patrons pick out their perfect dessert.

Catherin and I stood in the corner and chatted about her blog Munchie Musings.

“The Munchie Musings is actually an appropriate title because if I had to think of a mission statement it would be thoughts, musings, about food and life,” Catherine explained.

Looking for a new best friend? Meet Norman!

At one-and-a-half years old, Norman is a social, happy, fun-loving American Bulldog. This big boy knows how to use a dog door, loves riding in the car and knows how to sit and stay on command. Norman loves to play, but because of his size (he’s almost 88lbs!) he will do best with a family that is active, home often, and has older children. He is okay with cats but prefers to be the only dog in the home.

Norman is currently in foster care with a Sacramento SPCA employee. He is often at the shelter, so if you’re interested in meeting Norman, please visit our website (www.sspca.org), download a “Dog Matchmaker Form” and fax it to 916-383-7062.  Linda can also be contacted at lsalle@sspca.org.
