Sacramento police to get grant for new surveillance cameras

SACRAMENTO, CA - The Sacramento Police Department was given a state grant to buy surveillance trailers and install security cameras across the city.

The California Emergency Management Agency awarded $600,000 to the department to purchase the surveillance equipment.

So far, three mobile closed captioned television surveillance trailers have been purchased. The trailers have license plates that recognize the cameras and will be deployed at major events.

Also, 13 fixed surveillance cameras were purchased and will be placed in high crime and traffic areas.

The department will also be able to share access to more than 60 regional transit surveillance cameras.

Salon Entro inside Entro Studios, a locally based health and beauty salon, in association with the UC Davis Children’s Hospital, will utilize one of their many specialty services, hair extensions, to help inspire, motivate and uplift the self-esteem of children that suffer from chronic illnesses that cause hair-loss.

For the purposes of supporting foundations Salon Entro inside Entro Studios will host its first annual, Our 1FOR1 Movement, launch party on May 19 at Antiquite in Downtown Sacramento from 6:00 p.m to 8:30 p.m.

Contributors to the, Our 1FOR1 Movement, give hope and inspiration to children who suffer from chronic illnesses that cause hair-loss, a major contributor to the self-esteem and personal development of children.

Old favorites, up and coming bands featured at Friday night concerts

SACRAMENTO, CA -- Friday Night Concerts in the Park, Sacramento's popular summer concert series, announced its 2011 lineup featuring such old favorites as Mumbo Gumbo and Mick Martin & the Blues Rockers and introducing new acts such as Walking Spanish.

The concert series is celebrating its 20th anniversary and over the years more than 400 acts have taken center stage at Cesar Chavez Plaza, including Cake, the Deftones, and Jackie Green.

The free family concerts kick off on Friday, May 6 and wrap up on Friday, August 12.  Fifty local bands will be performing with music that covers practically every genre, said Lisa Martinez, marketing director for the Downtown Sacramento Partnership.

Rotary Club of Sacramento's "Bids for Kids" Event on May 14; Will Benefit Powerhouse Science Center

The Powerhouse Science Center has been selected as the recipient for the Rotary Club of Sacramento’s 27th annual “Bids for Kids” charity event on Saturday, May 14.

This elegant evening of fine food and drink will be held at Sacramento’s Discovery Museum Science & Space Center. The night will include silent and live auctions, with a variety of donations that range from exotic vacation getaways, premium wines, restaurant gift cards, theatre and sporting event tickets, and much more.

All proceeds from “Bids for Kids” will go toward building the Powerhouse Science Center, which will be located on the scenic banks of the Sacramento River. The Center will cost an estimated $50 million and has nearly completed its pre-construction phase. The 60-year old Discovery Museum Science & Space Center at 3615 Auburn Blvd., is scheduled to become the Powerhouse Science Center in 2013.

National Study Showing Increase in Cosmetic Surgery for Men Reflected in Sacramento Patients

Statistics just released by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons show that cosmetic plastic surgery procedures in men increased in 2010 compared to 2009.

Individual male surgical procedures that showed significant increase included:

Facelifts for men rose 14 percent in 2010, while male liposuction increased 7 percent.

In total, men underwent more than 1.1 million cosmetic procedures in 2010, both minimally invasive and surgical. Also, according to the ASPS, the majority of men’s top 10 fastest growing procedures are surgical, bucking the previous trend in the growth of minimally invasive treatments.
