Love Britney Spears? See her in concert - for cheap!

Great deal from Travelzoo that I just have to share, because I am a Britney Spears fan. Sure, she's screwed up over the years, but whatever...I still love her.

Anyway, in case you didn't know, pop icon Britney Spears' new Femme Fatale tour is heading to Sacramento next week, and tickets are now more than 50% off.  So you can get tickets for as cheap as $22.25.

Sacramento library Internet, phones crash

SACRAMENTO, CA - The Sacramento public library system is experiencing a major technical problem in which all Internet services (internal and external) and customer telephone lines are down.

Also affected are catalog and library wireless systems.

Spokesman Don Burns says the libraries are open.

Updates will be posted on the library's Facebook and Twitter pages.

Sacramento Sutter receiving medical makeover

SACRAMENTO, CA - Sutter Medical Center is in the midst of a major makeover designed to bring state-of-the-art facilities, equipment and medicine to Sacramento.

Sutter is two years away from completing a $74 million project that includes one million square feet of new space. The existing Sutter General Hospital on 29th and L Streets will house a new heart and vascular institute, and receive upgrades to the emergency, neurosciences, orthopedics and oncology departments.

The biggest piece of the project is a brand-new building -- the nearly 400,000 square foot Anderson Lucchetti Women's and Children's Center. When it opens in 2013, the 242-bed, eight floor facility will replace Sutter Memorial Hospital in east Sacramento where more than 300,000 babies have been born. The new center will include neonatal and pediatric intensive care services and general maternity.

18th Annual Doggy Dash now being called the 'Soggy Dash!'

18th Annual Doggy Dash now being called the 'Soggy Dash!'
Thank you to everyone who joined us on Saturday, June 4th for the Doggy Dash, or as it is now being referred to as the "Soggy Dash!" It may have rained ALL day, but despite everything, the event raised more than $170,000 for the animals at the Sacramento SPCA. We were amazed (and proud!) of the number of pet lovers who braved the weather with us!

We hope to see everyone next year, for the 19th Annual Doggy Dash in 2012. A date has not yet been established, but we're crossing our fingers (and paws) for sunshine and blue skies!

Sacramento police, fire budgets chopped

SACRAMENTO, CA - The Sacramento City Council voted to pass budget cuts that affect the police and fire department at Tuesday night's council meeting.

With $12.2 million diced form its budget, the Sacramento Police Department will have to lay off more than 150 members of the police staff.

The police department will eliminate positions from NARC, gangs, mounted patrol, bike patrol, boat patrol, the magnet program, traffic and auto theft investigation.

Sgt. Norm Leong said 82 sworn officers and 68 civilians will be laid off. The department will not fill 14 vacant positions which were held by sworn officers.

Wednesday, the police department said it would be shifting to how it currently handles calls to primarily dealing with emergencies and major crime investigations.
