Crackdown on drinking while boating planned

SACRAMENTO, CA -- Marine law enforcement will be out in force, patrolling lakes and rivers across the U.S. from June 24 to June 26, looking for people boating under the influence.

The three-day BUI crackdown is part of Operation Dry Water, an annual campaign aimed at reducing the number of alcohol related drinking and boating accidents.

According to the National Association of State Boating and Law Administrators, more than 17 percent of boating deaths result from alcohol use. Operating a recreational vessel with a blood alcohol level of .08 or higher is against the law in California and most states, although there is no open container law pertaining to boating in California.

Gloria Sandoval with the boating agency says whether you are the driver or passenger in a boat, remaining sober is crucial to water safety.

Mother accused in baby's microwave death has court hearing

SACRAMENTO, CA - The Sacramento mother accused of killing her 6-week-old daughter in the microwave was in court Thursday.

Appearing in Sacramento County Superior Court, Ka Yang, 29, acknowledged she understood the charges against her.

Those charges are murder with a deadly weapon (the microwave), assault of a child under the age of 8 resulting in death and a special circumstance of torture.

Citing case overload, the county public defender's office appointed Linda Parisi, a private attorney, to represent Yang.

"Clearly in these kinds of cases, it is just a tragedy when there has been a loss of life," said Parisi outside the courtroom. "I think there is no question there is clearly some psychological issues that will have to be investigated."

On March 17, 2011, firefighter/paramedics were called to the 800 block of Rood Avenue in Robla, a northern Sacramento County community.

Summer Home Security - June 23, 2011

Facebook and Twitter are great for keeping friends and family up to date on your life and during the summer months, it's a great way to share vacation pics and information. However, thieves can also utilize the wide reach of social  media to track where you are and when you're not home. Also, tech savvy crooks are hacking into home computers to access personal information such as credit cards and social security numbers.

Clubhouse 56: doesn't look fancy on the outside, is VERY inviting on the inside!

Clubhouse 56: doesn't look fancy on the outside, is VERY inviting on the inside!

You wanna go where everybody knows your name? In East Sacramento, Clubhouse 56 is the closest thing you will find to a Ted Danson-like "Cheers" atmosphere. Located in a strip mall right near the corners of 56th and H streets, Clubhouse 56 may look very average from the outside, but once you step through one of two entrances, you see where the appeal appears.

Tricked out metal counter tops that have a NASCAR pattern etched on them, big monitors on every wall tuned to all your national pro sporting events, all the main beers you'd want on tap and in bottles, all the top shelf liquor you can shake a stick at, and everything on their menu from tacos to burgers to quesadillas to chicken wings... and then there are the bartenders: Alex, Sean, Chris, and the big hitter, Jimmy a.k.a. "Jimmy-Jim." Yes, I am biased.
