California colleges brace for another budget hit

SACRAMENTO, CA - California State University and the University of California are preparing for more funding reductions.

Administrators for both college systems say if state lawmakers approve their latest state budget plan, the schools will lose $650 million each.

Earlier this year, CSU and UC said they were looking at a $500 million hit.  An extra $150 million will be snatched away because the budget plan lawmakers plan to approve lets temporary taxes expire this week.

CSU Chancellor Charles Reed said, "This budget is a great disappointment for the California State University.  It is a shame that the Legislature was unable to reach a compromise that would have kept taxes at current levels and prevented further massive cuts to the public's universities."
